Jude 2 Months

Jude is now over two months old, he actually turned two months last week (it’s been a long week!), but I am just now getting an update posted.

Jude had his two month doctor appointment last week; everything is going good, he is now 12 pounds, 12 ounces and 23.5 inches (both of those put him the 75% for boys his age!).  At this appointment he received the first of many vaccines he will get in the coming years.  He actually did really well with the actual shot, to be honest much better than I was expecting, but later that night he start to get a slight fever and be kind of fussy, a little Tylenol made it all better though.

Jude has changed so much in the past month that it is hard to imagine it was just two short months ago all he did was cry, eat, and sleep!  He is becoming more interactive by the day, he has started to smile, and he does smile often, and laugh.  He loves to be social, on more than one occasion he was fussing in his crib only to get a huge smile the moment he saw Josiah or I had walked in to give him attention!

Bath time has become a big hit, especially since we figured out the right temperature for Jude (he HATES being cold!), though when we take him out of the bath there is still quite a bit of protest, because of the whole being cold part while we dry him off.

Last weekend Jude got to have his first cousin experience that he was actually somewhat aware of.  Josiah’s brother and his family came down from Ft Collins, so Jude got to have some bonding time with his cousin, Lillian, who is just under three months older than him.  It was fun to watch them be around each other and observe the other one.  On Saturday evening Jude was a little fussy anyway, but was getting calmed down by Marmie (grandma), but as soon as he heard Lillian start to fuss his lip would start to curl out and he would get this sad expression on his face (Jude has a very good pouty face).  Lillian loved to just stare intently at Jude as if she was trying to figure him out.  As they both get older I know it will be fun for them to have a cousin that lives close and are so close in age.

Even though Lillian is almost 3 months older than Jude, she barely weighs
1/2 pound more than he does!

This we have are starting to try and get Jude on a semi-regular schedule, since as I was reminded of at his doctor appointment he doesn’t have newborn sleep patterns anymore.  By schedule I mean go to bed at close to the same time every night, to actually lay him down in his crib for naps, and to stop using “crutches” to get him to sleep, ie pacifier.  Definitely the most difficult part of this is getting him to fall asleep without his pacifier, because he LOVES his pacifier, especially when he is tired and trying to sleep.

I know this is one of those things that will be well worth it in the long run, so we are not having to break bad habits we have created, but I would consider this a fun part of parenting!  In fact the majority of the time I was writing this I had a very tired boy trying to cry himself to sleep, since he didn’t have a pacifier to help him fall asleep.  Our thinking from what we have read, is that if can endure little bits of crying now, with going to comfort him every few minutes, it will be easier when it is time for him to be able to sleep through the night at 4-6 months.

Overall I’m loving motherhood, even on the hard days. After all, even if it has been a LONG night, I can’t help but smile when I get to wake up to Jude’s precious toothless grin every morning!

Happy 2 Month Birthday Jude, what a precious gift God has given us in you!
