Two Hours & a State Divide for PIE!

Last Thursday Josiah and I went with Dan and Cindy for a little adventure.  We drove 2 hours to the nearest Shari’s for pie.  That sounds like quite the drive for a slice of pie doesn’t it?  But it was for Dan’s birthday, he really likes pie, and Shari’s happens to be his favorite, or at least one of his favorites.  There is also a story to how this began…
It all started on my birthday last year. Josiah had come for a visit and my parents asked what dessert I would like and I requested a Shari’s chocolate pie.  I don’t prefer pie to other desserts it just sounded good at the time.  Being from Colorado, where there are no Shari’s, this was a new experience for Josiah.  He loved it!!!  So when we went grocery shopping on our honeymoon we discovered that there was a Shari’s close by, so we stopped in and got a pie for us to enjoy for the week.  It was a French silk, I believe, and Josiah also loved this flavor.
After we had arrived in Colorado Josiah told his dad about Shari’s and how good their pies are, since Dan is such a big fan.  Josiah said if he was ever in Oregon Dan would have to go there and try it out.
Sometime this early spring Josiah and Dan went to a cow sale in Nebraska (that is a whole story in itself), and on the way there they spotted from the highway, you guessed it a Shari’s, so Josiah convinced Dan that they should go there on the way home so Dan could try their pie.  On the way home they stopped, and Dan was hooked!  He LOVED their pie!
Then when my parents came to visit over the 4th of July, all the guys decided that they should go get some Wyoming fireworks (the equivalent of going to Washington from Oregon to get fireworks).   Of course to decrease the likelihood of getting pulled over they went through Nebraska.  Since they were in Nebraska anyway, why not go to Shari’s and get pie.  So my dad went on a three state journey to get pie and fireworks.  He still tells people the story of his grand three state adventure he went on in Colorado, and Dan still “blames” my dad for the whole adventure. J   And there is the history on why we would drive 2 hours, well actually 1 hour 45minutes, and a state divide for pie.
It was quite a nice evening; it was wonderful to spend time together and to celebrate Dan’s birthday.  Thanks to my parents who sent a Shari’s gift card, to Dan and Cindy, as a thank you for letting them use the fifth wheel during their visit.
Here is a picture of my piece of pie to prove the validity of our adventure, it is S’mores Galore (I would recommend it, but it is very rich so if you are going for the whole pie I would pick another flavor).  Sorry I didn’t get any pictures of the DELICIOUS marionberry pie we brought home.
